University of Kansas educational technology researchers plan K-12 film festival

KU: News: LAWRENCE -- Aspiring filmmakers from kindergarten through 12th grade in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri are being invited to submit their films by Nov. 28 for the DiMO Awards competition sponsored by the University of Kansas’ research group known as Advanced Learning Technologies in Education Consortia or ALTEC. DiMO derives from Digital Media Online.

As part of KU’s Center for Research on Learning, ALTEC promotes technology use in education. “To help encourage the use of video in the classroom we are putting together the DiMO Awards, an ‘Oscar-style’ K-12 film festival at the Lawrence Arts Center Jan. 20, 2006,” said Isa Kretschmer, ALTEC media developer. The festival is a two-day event, Jan. 20 and 21, 2006, and will include a night of film screenings, a day of student workshops with teacher collaboration led by professional filmmakers and a semi-formal awards gala.

Students can submit their entries online."
